Game Viewing
Daily game drives on the property are available. View the following game:

  • All plains antelope (including the Oribi buck)
  • Giraffe
  • Wildebeest
  • Zebra
  • Warthog
  • Porcupine
  • Simango Monkeys
  • Lynx
  • Black back jackal
  • And if you are lucky, the ever present but secretive Leopard
Explore the natural magnificence of the Gorge

Hiking Trails
  • Explore the natural magnificence of the Gorge on numerous hiking trails under the canopy of the indigenous trees;
  • Discover the bushman paintings in one of the caves; or
  • Hike to the foot of the Lehrs and Hoopoe Falls.
Birding

Some 255 bird species are found in the gorge area. The Cape Vulture has populated the gorge for several years and is seen daily from the balconies of the chalets. The Fish Eagle and Egyptian Geese could be spotted at the main dam. The feeding of the Cape Vultures could be arranged by appointment.

Golf

Sought after courses are a mere 50 minutes' drive from The Gorge Private Game Lodge & Spa and several golf packages are available to suit both corporate and individual needs.

Beaches

The South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal has three sun-drenched, safe, golden beaches with Blue Flag status. It makes this oceanside one of the finest archetypal coastlines in the world. Due to the temperature of the Indian Ocean, swimming is possible during all four seasons. These prestigious beaches are a mere 40 minutes' drive from The Gorge Private Game Lodge & Spa.

Adventure Options

For the adventurous at heart we offer the following scintillating activities:

  • An exhilarating 4x4 track suitable for 4x2 vehicles and beginners;
  • Abseiling next to the Lehrs Waterfall;
  • The highest swing in the world from the Lehrs Waterfall (100m deep);
  • A foefie slide (A thrill activity where you are harnessed onto the zip line and you slide all the way down the line to be caught by a shock absorbing device at the bottom) 160m above the ground;
  • White water rafting in summer;
  • Deep sea fishing charter;
  • Water sports;
  • Canopy rides for the whole family. Simply slide along the cliffs of the gorge through the canopies of ancient indigenous forest and finish up at the restaurant to enjoy a light lunch! (Please note: The Canopy Tours will only be completed in 2010).
